Timeline: Saturday night (Brother's surprise birthday party) someone mentions Tenessee, Chris says he'd like to go there. Sunday morning we make the decision to go. Sunday afternoon once I get out of class, we hop in the car and go, not really knowing what we were getting ourselves into (and probably not realizing Tennessee was 20+ hours away and we only had 4 days). Night number one we had dinner at a vegetarian enclave and made it down to NJ to sleep. It was too cold to sleep in the car and this wasn't planned out (no CSers) so we had to stay at a Motel 6. Motel 6s are cheap (our least expensive one was 35$) and got cheaper as we got further south. We drove through Virginia the next day and were aiming to take the Blue Ridge Parkway for part of the journey; it sounded beautiful. Once we made it there, however, we realized it just wouldn't be possible; the BRP was covered in several feet of snow. Not even freshly fallen snow, but just big pillows of snow. If the sign hadn't been there, we wouldn't have known there was even a road. A plow was just starting to clear some snow; that'll take a while I bet. So we get back on the highway and drive some more.
We made it to Tennessee Monday night and found a Chinese place to eat at. The place closed at 9 and we got there around 8:15 (we heard the lady exclaiming to someone about people that got there just as they were about to close!) The lady kept warning us to be careful of strangers around here and she was afraid of the snow for us. She wanted us to stay in town and not to drive to Knoxville. (She was a little silly).
Never saw Lan. He was sick. We didn't go to Memphis; with no Lan, not worth it. Next time we'll see him.
Found a sweet vegetarian bar in Louisville. Chris didn't want to go in at first, but it turned out awesome.
Went caving at the longest cave in the world. Hundreds of miles long. We may have been in there for a mile? Mammoth Cave.
Saw some giant stones in Georgia. Guidestones. Tall. Writing in a bunch of languages about peace and justice and such.
Found a raw vegan place in Pennsylvania. There was a huge billboard for it on the highway. It was covered in snow when we got there. Like a few feet. Clearly not open.
Ate lots of chocolate chips.
Traffic in NYC at midnight. Ugh.
Getting home at 4am. Went to work a few hours later. Ick.
What I'll remember about this trip was driving driving driving passengering sleeping at Motel 6s. Oh, and that Ohio really is kind of far from home.
